About

Dreamscape is an anime/game-based graphics site that provides free premade graphics to anyone who is interested. Most of the graphics here are manga- and game-centric; I say manga rather than anime because I normally don't use images from animes to make graphics. Dreamscape is still relatively new, and there isn't a lot of content at this moment, but I think we're steadily growing, and I hope you will stick around and watch us expand.

Dreamscape began as an avatar site in late November 2005, and was hosted on a free hosting server. In mid-2006, Pinky of Purelysin.net agreed to host Dreamscape, and without the space restrictions the free server had, Dreamscape expanded a bit and began to offer layouts, wallpapers, and forum signatures in late 2006. Purelysin.net went down in April 2007, and Dreamscape became hosted by my former sponsor, Ben of Yachiru.net.

I created Dreamscape because I like making avatars (I find it amazing how much expression you can put into such a small space), and I wanted to start small and eventually expand. In the future, I hope to offer resources such as brushes and textures, and maybe eventually start writing tutorials as well.

Before Dreamscape, my designing experience was mainly Xanga-centric. I still have a Xanga and a Xanga layout site. I'm relatively new to making actual web layouts (the coding is a bit different from Xanga layouts), but I've been making graphics such as avatars for years. The graphics at Dreamscape don't really have a distinct style because I like to experiment with many different styles, but I suppose that if I had to pick a word to describe all the graphics here, it would be soft. I'm not into bright and bold and noticeable; I prefer subtlety and things that "flow," so most of the graphics here are of the blendy type.

The Name

dream · scape (n.) - 1) a dreamlike, often surrealistic scene. 2) a painting depicting such a scene.

As you may know, I have quite a few obsessions, including the wind, dreams, and the color blue. When I was trying to think of a name, one of the possibilities I considered was "Skyscape," among others. I felt it was a little too limiting, though. I know that even if I chose that as the name, I wouldn't have to make everything about the sky, or even every main layout, but I still felt too confined by it. I liked the "-scape" part, though, so I merged it with one of my obsessions and came up with "Dreamscape." It has a bit of a double meaning: the second definition can be related to graphics, in a way. Also most of the graphics here at Dreamscape are rather soft-styled and blendy, so it does fit fairly well.
